Daniel Haynes was a cotton gin builder in Sealy, Texas who began making cotton-filled mattresses for friends and neighbors in 1881. His mattresses became so popular that he sold patent rights to people in various locations to manufacture the "Mattress from Sealy". Haynes sold all of his patents and knowledge in 1906 to another Texas company that took the name Sealy, and began to market the mattresses through ads in The Saturday Evening Post and Ladies' Home Journal. A young advertising executive, Earl Edwards, gave Sealy the slogan "Sleeping on a Sealy is like sleeping on a cloud", and the company began to flourish. Today, the Sealy Corporation employs over 6,000 people, has plants in 20 states, in addition to Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Argentina, France, and Italy. Sealy Mattress Company manufactures and markets a broad range of mattresses and foundations (box springs) under the Sealy, Sealy Posturepedic, Stearns & Foster, and Bassett brand names. We have an Ergonomics Committee, a Safety Committee, and a program called "Stop for Each Other" where employees remind each other to always follow our safety guidelines.
