Alvin D. Jackson Visits the Medina County Health Department
Alvin D. Jackson, MD, Director of the Ohio Department of Health visited the Medina County Health Department on January 28, 2008. Patient education and disease prevention are among Dr. Jackson's top priorities. Medina County Health Department staff had the opportunity to ask Dr. Jackson about his goals for public health in Ohio. Dr. Jackson has an interest in developing a statewide project to address adolescent obesity rates.
Dr. Jackson expressed his admiration of the work of the Medina County Health Department in protecting the health of Medina County residents. Of particular interest was the examination of health status of Medina County residents, the dental health services program, the public health nursing services, and the environmental health programs in Medina County. He was impressed with the Child and Adolescent Health Clinic, which received a best practice award from the Ohio Department of Health; the Women, Infants, and Children program; and the array of services provided by the Environmental Health Division.
Dr. Jackson also attended a meeting of the Medina County Health Forum Steering Committee, comprised of representatives from multiple community agencies monitoring the health status of Medina County residents.
"This visit by Dr. Jackson was an excellent opportunity to have a dialogue with the Director of the Ohio Department of Health, and for Dr. Jackson to see the quality, professionalism, and passion for protecting the public?s health that staff of the Medina County Health Department have," said Dr. Daniel Raub, Health Commissioner.
