Jan's Place in Lodi is just like a local, neighborhood bar straight out of the 1950s. Beginning in 1981, present owner Jan Stull began to lease the bar from the previous owner who had run the establishment as Lee's Tavern for twenty-seven years. She had worked for the previous owner so she knew the business well and was quite well known by her customers. Although she changed the name of the tavern, she kept everything else just as it always has been. Jan takes pride in providing a comfortable place where folks can come in, relax, and get a bit to eat. In addition to a fully stocked bar, the kitchen is open from ten o'clock in the morning until ten o'clock each night serving a selection of homemade soups, sandwiches, and dinners. The coffee club meets at Jan's Place each morning to visit, drink coffee, and discuss the latest news and Jan's is also home to the Tuesday night pool league and the Thursday night dart league. Jan says, "People like to come here because whenever they come through our doors, we make them feel welcome. We always take the time to ask where they're from, how they're doing, and what can we get them. We don't have live bands and we we don't have karaoke but we do have a jukebox. We're just a local meeting place with a down-home atmosphere." Jan's is the local meeting place in Lodi, a place where everyone can drop in, relax, and have a visit. The next time you're in town, stop on by Jan's Place and don't forget to tell them that The Advocate sent you! |
