Char Klimko has been teaching local residents to be light on their feet for over ten years. In her studio, Dance d'Elegance, she specializes in teaching the art of ballroom dancing including the foxtrot, swing, cha-cha, the rumba, the tango, the samba, and, of course, the waltz. With monthly practice parties, she provides an opportunity for everybody to meet and practice their new skills while gliding elegantly across the dance floor.

With students as young as thirteen years of age, Char divides her lessons into two eight-week classes. The first class teaches the foxtrot, waltz, and swing as they are the easiest to learn. The Latin dances are introduced in the second eight-week session along with a lot of more advanced swing. Group classes are held several nights a week and private lessons are also available. The lessons last about an hour each and are held all year long. While the lessons are for both men and women, women's natural love of dancing results in classes that are always looking for more male students. Since we're now in the twenty-first century, you may be wondering who exactly is still interested in ballroom dancing and perhaps even why they're interested. Many of us find ourselves at wedding receptions, corporate events, proms, and other functions and if we're unsure on the dance floor, we're relegated to watching other, more sure-footed folks enjoying themselves while we are on the sidelines as spectators. In fact swing, the latin dances, the salsa, and the tango have become very popular again in the last few years with people of all ages. Char also recommends dance lessons for men who want to meet women. She says, "if men knew how popular they would be if they knew how to dance, they'd be beating my door down trying to get in!" Many of her students take lessons and attend the monthly parties simply because they love to dance and look forward to an evening's enjoyment on the dance floor.
