Rich Johnson has always been involved with high performance vehicles. Over the years friends and associates frequently asked for his help working on their cars, and encouraged him to make his talents available commercially. In July 1996 Rich founded Back Street Performance as a part-time venture, and by 2003 his company had become full-time operation. We met with Rich recently, and listened as he outlined the services Back Street Performance offers;

Back Street Performance specializes in parts installation, Corvette modification, and tuning of high performance vehicles. Our services include tuning LS1/LS2/LS6/LS7 Corvettes and the installation of forced air induction systems, intakes, clutches, exhausts, brakes, and gauges. We install a lot of head and cam packages on C5 and C6 Corvettes, in addition to long tube headers.

We have a chassis dynamometer in our shop that we use to ensure optimal air/fuel ratios and tune automobiles to peak performance. We have a portable Dynojet chassis dynamometer that we can take off-site. Throughout the year we take our portable unit to various automotive events and shows, and we take it to other performance shops to help them with their high performance tuning projects.

Back Street Performance modifies a lot of Corvettes and builds spec Miata race cars. We perform performance tune-ups, as well as general maintenance on all cars.
